The Importance Of Exercising Your Brain

Arnold Schwarzenegger once made a wonderful statement by saying, “The BODY is very important but the MIND is MORE IMPORTANT.” Even as a bodybuilder, Arnold knew that achieve his physique goals he had to have a strong mind. He had to cultivate discipline, focus, and self-motivation to become a multi-time world champion.

We live in a world that is often very shallow when it comes to self-development. We see magazine ads and commercials all day long promoting the idea of looking slim or buff. That we need to try the latest diet pill, workout regimen or clothing brand that will make us look our best. Now there isn’t anything wrong with keeping your body healthy, in fact it’s very important to have a healthy body, but how often do we see advertisements advocating that we exercise our brains? Not nearly as often.

In modern society, having big muscles is not nearly as important as having a big strong, healthy brain. We are no longer running from saber tooth tigers or clubbing our neighbors in the head to survive. We don’t need to lift boulders and throw spears from a 20-meter distance. We do, however, need to complete work that is more complex and focus-oriented than ever before. We not only survive but thrive by using the power of our brains every day in modern society. Those of us who reach the highest heights of accomplishments do so by using intelligence — not muscle.

Just take a moment to look at some of the most successful people in the world. They have all achieved their success by creating something world changing. Mark Zuckerberg, for example, is no he-man, he’s a ‘skinny-nerd’ but due to his smarts, he is one of the youngest billionaires in the world. The same goes for almost all of the most successful people such as Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Richard Bronson and others. They are all cases of brains over brawn being the most important factor of success in the modern world.

So why do so few people focus on boosting their brain instead of boosting their biceps? That’s a difficult question to answer but I think we will see over time more and more people will start utilizing brain exercises and products.
